Honda City 2020

New Honda City 2020 has been revealed

Honda has revealed the 2020 Honda City in Thailand. The fifth generation of the City will feature a new design, larger dimensions, and, in Thailand, a new 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. The VTEC turbo produces 122PS and 173Nm and comes mated to a 7-step CVT with paddle shifters. Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 23.8kmpl and compliance with Euro 5 emission norms. It is priced between THB 579,500 to 739,000 (Rs 13.74 to 17.52 lakh). We expect the newest City to come to India in mid-late 2020. It might retain the BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine.

The 2020 Honda City is over 100mm longer than the outgoing model, making it a fairly substantial car by mid-size sedan standards. The new City is also wider by 53mm but its height is down 28mm. Interestingly, for its larger dimensions, the City also sits on an 11mm shorter wheelbase vis-à-vis the outgoing model.

The fifth-gen model gets fresh styling on the outside but the form is still easily recognisable as that of a City. Linking the City to the Civic and Amaze is the thick chrome band atop the grille that forms the focal point at the front. The grille is flanked by wide and sharper-looking wraparound headlamps, embellished with LED projector units and daytime running lamps. However, what takes a bit away from the look is the simply-styled front bumper. Moving on to the sides, the new City gets a prominent character line that runs from the front door all the way to the back, eventually merging with the tail-lamps. The doors get subtle creases at the bottom as well, just like the outgoing model.

At the rear, the City gets elongated tail-lamps with LED elements and a simple boot and rear bumper design with vertically positioned reflectors placed at each end. The City for the Thai market sits on 185/60 R15 tyres shod with multi-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels. We expect the India-spec City to get a larger tyre size.

On the inside, the 2020 City gets an all-new dashboard layout that looks simple yet upmarket. The car that was on display had an all-black interior but the India car could get a beige-on-black theme, perceived to be more premium in our market. The subtle doses of brushed aluminium and piano black trim help uplift the look of things on the inside.

It is expect that the car to be showcased at the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo and that's when we'll know about the launch timeline on the new offering. The City is a strong seller for Honda Cars India, and the new-gen version is likely to keep the momentum going.

2020 Mahindra Thar

2020 Mahindra Thar Likely To Feature Rear Disc Brakes, LED Taillamps And Alloy Wheels.

The upcoming 2020 Mahindra Thar has been recently spotted testing in India, and this time around we get to see the new-generation off-road SUV with a set of alloy wheels and LED taillamps. While we have already shared several spy photos of the 2020 Thar, this is the first time that we are seeing a prototype of the 4x4 SUV with these features. Expected to make its debut at the Auto Expo 2020, the new-gen Mahindra Thar will be bigger, more features-packed and come with a Bharat Stage VI (BS6) compliant engine under the hood.

The prototype model of the new Mahindra Thar is still heavily camouflaged, so there is not much to talk about the exterior here that we haven't already talked about in our previous spy shot reports. This one too is the hard-top version of the Thar, which again is an all-new feature for the SUV, and it comes with a set of 5-spoke alloy wheels, which appear to be a set of 18-inchers. The taillamp too is covered, so we can only see the borders of the new LED unit. The front, of course, comes with that iconic face with the 7-slot grille, round headlamps, larger fenders and a heavy-duty front bumper.

If you look at Mahindra’s portfolio, it gets easier to believe that the new 2020 Thar could be offered with disc brakes at the rear. This is because the XUV300, a car that will sit below the upcoming Thar in terms of price, is available with disc brakes at the rear as standard on all variants.

Based on previous spy photos, we know that the upcoming Mahindra Thar will also come with an updated cabin featuring an all-black dashboard with new dials for the air-con system, new steering wheel, restyled central air-con vents, and possibly even a touchscreen display as well. The SUV will also get new, more comfortable seats and upholstery for the driver and co-driver, while the rear section will get the side facing bench seats as before. The 2020 Thar will also get features like a brand-new instrument cluster with a MID (Multi-Information Display) unit, and a new gear lever. In terms of safety, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will feature front, ABS driver airbag, rear parking sensors, speed alert system and more as standard.

Under the hood, the new-gen Mahindra Thar will come with a new BS 6 compliant engine, however, the details are still unknown. Currently, the Mahindra Thar is powered by a 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine that makes 105 bhp at 3800 rpm and develops a peak torque of 274 Nm from as low as 1800-2000 rpm. It gets the standard 4WD system with high & low ratios.

It's expected that Mahindra will unveil the Thar at the 2020 Auto Expo, which will be held in early February, 2020 . The recent spy shots show the Thar to be almost production-ready.
When Mahindra launches the 2020 Thar in India, it will be at a premium over the outgoing model. New feature additions, a premium cabin and the addition of an automatic transmission could result in a price hike of Rs 1 lakh. For comparison, the Thar currently retails for Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

Tesla Cybertruck launched 

Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed an absurd, futuristic, brutalist electric pickup called Cybertruck to the world.

Tesla has built its entire existence on convincing people to buy something they didn’t think they wanted. Electric cars were derided as wimpy golf carts before the company came along. From that perspective, selling the Cybertruck may not be as radical a challenge for the company as it seems.

2. The automaker claims the truck has an almost impenetrable body made from "ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel" and armored glass.

The durable stainless steel shell on the truck mitigates dents, damage, and corrosion, according to the automaker.

3. Meanwhile, the "ultra-strong" glass can cushion and avert impact force.

However, the Cybertruck reveal showed that the glass may not be as "impenetrable" as the automaker originally claimed otherwise when an object thrown at it damaged the glass during two separate demo on stage.

4. Cybertruck comes in three configurations: Single Motor Rear-Wheel Drive, Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, and Tri-Motor All-Wheel Drive.

The single-motor rear-wheel-drive has a range of 250 miles, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive can achieve 300 miles, and the most expensive tri-motor all-wheel-drive  can make 500 miles.

5. In the tri-motor variant, it will be able to hit 60 mph  in about 2.9 seconds.

Competition?

While Cybertruck is not expected to appeal to traditional pickup buyers, a new fleet of all-electric pickups are expected to make their way into the U.S. market to compete against Tesla’s product.

Car Body Styles

Car body types is a broad subject to deal with and the names given also vary from country to country.The names are given depending upon design, utility, technology used and customization.In this article we mainly deal with the names used in India.

Some of the important car body styles are as mentioned below.

Hatchback

The small cars with 4 doors and a boot (dickey) door are classified under hatchback. Generally these are designed for comfortable seating of 4 passengers and small boot space for putting one or two bags. The size of hatchback varies depending upon design. It could be super mini, or a larger one. The design is same but interior size and luggage space varies. Manufacturers constantly try their best to make improvements to their product range. For example, the boot space of the new Hyundai Grand i10 is more from the first generation i10. Usually, hatchbacks are extremely convenient for city driving as they are perfect in heavy traffic, help easy parking and give decent mileage.

Some of the examples for hatchback are Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Alto K10, Baleno, Swift, Hyundai i10, i20, Fiat Punto, Tata tiago and so on. Even Tata Nano and Mahindra Reva electric are classified under hatchbacks.

Sedan

Sedans are the cars designed to for comfortable seating of 5 passengers. There would be flexible seating options ranging from 7, 8, 9 and 10 so on. The body is built on chassis frame and can carry large amounts of luggage. Generally, there is compromise on comfortand features in MUV’s versus SUVs. Best example for MUV would be a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6, Toyota Innova Crysta, Mahindra Marazzo and so on.

SUV are vehicles designed to use in all road conditions, ranging from highways to cross country roads.In this type, importance is given for all factors such as usage of advanced technology for engine, gearbox, differential, 4WD option, interior space. SUV’s have features suited for long drives,good technology for suspensions, and so on.The main point about SUV is the importance given to fit and finish (both interior and exterior) and drive quality.

Vehicle like Mahindra Scorpio, XUV 500 and Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Kia Seltos, MG Hector are classified under SUV because of their design and ability to use in all road conditions. Even Skoda Yeti comes under SUV.

Vehicles like Mahindra Alturas, Toyota Fortuner, Honda C-RV, Mitsubishi Outlander, Ford Endeavour, BMW X1 and Audi Q series are all classified under SUV but belong to higher price category.

Coupe

Coupe is the name given to sedan cars with two doors only.The two doors are bit larger and though rear seat is available in some models, one can go to inside through sliding of front seats. Here main importance is given to styling, luxury and image. Coupe design is used mostly in European countries and in India though available, the number of people that prefer this type is very less.

Examples for Coupe are Aston Martin V8 Vantage Coupe,Audi RS 5 Coupe , Mustang Coupe and so on.

Convertible

Convertible cars are the cars whose roof line can be removed or refitted as required.

Generally it’s available in high end luxury vehicles. Electro mechanical devices are used for step by step folding of the roof lines. In earlier vehicles leather material were used. In modern vehicles the metal roof lines with design of folding part by part and eventually rest on/in trunk part of the vehicle. Operating of a button is good enough for folding or putting back the roof linings.

Convertibles are more frequently used in cold countries wherein weather temperature is quite less and also roads have lesser dusty conditions.It’s purely a preferred choice for persons with passion of using stylish cars and the feel of air in hair when driving vehicle.

In India also there are quite a number of convertible cars available and till date it’s the most demanded design for the customers looking for modification in their cars. However as most of Indian road conditions are hot, hard top sedans are preferred more.

Some of the examples for convertible cars are Mercedes SL Class and Mini Cooper Convertible.

Wagon

Wagon is the type of vehicle with good combination of hatchback and sedan. These models have advantage of larger space behind the second row. It can be either used for luggage or for putting additional seats as required. The dimensions are larger than hatchback in terms of width, height.

Some of the examples for Wagon Type are Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Mahindra Quanto and so on. Even Maruti Suzuki Ertiga can be classified under wagon category. The size varies but category is similar.

VAN

Van is the name given to cars with main perspective of flexibility in utilizing the interior space. It has options of varying number of seats and hence luggage space .Best Example are the Maruti Suzuki Omni, Eeco.

There is difference in the vehicles (particularly Van) used purely for commercial purpose and for the one used for passenger purpose.Example for commercial usage vehicle are Tata Ace,Tata Venture etc.

Pick up vehicle.

Pick up vehicle (Pick up Van) is the term used for the MUV with separate space for luggage.Best example is Tata Xenon XT and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. It has the combination of design of a MUV and that of a commercial pick up vehicle.There would be spacious interiors for comfortable seating of 5 passengers and separate luggage space available behind the passenger cabin.The dimensions of vehicle would be larger and body is built on chassis frame so that load carry capacity can be considerably large. Generally it could be around 800Kg.

Jeep

Jeep is a particular type of vehicle similar to that of MUV but there is option for hard top or soft top. Most famous in India is Mahindra Thar in current scenario and Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, Mahindra Jeep.

This type of vehicle has good combination of utility like that of a sports car and cost like that of a MUV and hence can be best suitable one for cross country usage and taking out for  adventure drive in forests.
